The students are expected to:\n\n\n- Describe the basics of ethics in research: fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism – what it means and pitfalls\n- Describe the role of science in society – why is research important?\n- Describe and discuss present views on author responsibilities and inclusion criteria, SLUs policy, international policies, and policies of scientific journals\n- Describe and discuss peer-review standards and predatory journals\n- Describe and critically discuss the concept of misconduct in research, legal definitions, SLU’s policy, Swedish national board for assessment of research misconduct (Npof)\n- Describe and discuss whistleblowing, legal definitions, SLU’s policy, Swedish national board for assessment of research misconduct (Npof)\n- Describe the basic overview of the history of philosophy of science\n- Describe present views of philosophy of science (concepts and terminology)\n- Describe and discuss practical implications of philosophy within research in biology\n-","Innehåll":"The aim of the course is to give the students an overview and understanding of different aspects of research ethics, and to give the students an introduction to philosophy of science.\n\nThe course will consist of seminars (lectures and discussions), held online (via zoom or similar platform). Before each seminar, the students should read the literature associated with each lecture.\n\nThe examination consists of a written assignment followed by an oral group discussion of the written assignment during the final seminar event.\n\nAdditional, optional, animal research ethics part: Web-platform with lectures and information, followed by a multiple-choice questions exam on the same web platform.","Betygsformer":"Kraven för kursens olika betygsgrader framgår av betygskriterier, som ska finnas tillgängliga senast vid kursstart.","Examinationsformer":"Approved written assignment and oral discussion based on the written assignment. \r\n- Examinatorn har, om det finns skäl och är möjligt, rätt att ge en kompletteringsuppgift till den student som inte blivit godkänd på en examination.\r\n- Om studenten har ett beslut från SLU om riktat pedagogiskt stöd på grund av funktionsnedsättning, kan examinatorn ge ett anpassat prov eller låta studenten genomföra provet på ett alternativt sätt.\r\n- Om denna kursplan läggs ned, ska SLU besluta om övergångsbestämmelser för examination av studenter, som antagits enligt denna kursplan och ännu inte blivit godkända.\r\n- För examination av självständigt arbete (examensarbete) gäller dessutom att examinatorn kan tillåta studenten att göra kompletteringar efter inlämningsdatum.
