[{"Kurskod":"POG0069","Version":1,"Benämning":"Etik och vetenskapsfilosofi","Omfattning":3.0,"Giltig från och med":"2014H","Utbildningsnivå":"Forskarnivå","Ämne":[{"Ämne":"Other Social Science"}],"Språk":"Svenska","Behörighetskrav":"Admitted as PhD student at SLU","Mål":"AIM\n\nThe course aims at introducing central topics in research ethics and philosophy of science, and to allow students to gain insight into the possibilities and limitations of science, its role in society, and humans’ responsibility for how science is used, and develop an ability to conduct ethical assessments of research.\n\nLEARNING OUTCOMES\n\nAfter the course students should demonstrate the ability to:\n\n•\tunderstand the most central concepts in theory and philosophy of science\n\n•\ttentatively apply these ideas to one’s own field of research\n\n•\texplain and discuss differences and similarities between different fields of inquiry (e.g. social sciences vs. natural sciences)\n\n•\texplain some possibilities and pitfalls at the intersection of science\/scholarship and societal decision making\n\n•\tdescribe and discuss the contents of some codes of professional conduct and their ethical underpinnings \n\n•\tidentify cases of scientific misconduct and suggest strategies for dealing with suspected cases of misconduct \n\n•\tanalyze a concrete ethical problem of relevance for his or her research or for SLU and present a well-argued ethical assessment of the problem","Innehåll":"•\tTruth and knowledge, data and information\n\n•\tCore concepts in philosophy of science: Hypothesis testing, explanation and understanding, causation and correlation, positivism and falsificationism, hyopthetico-deductive method.\n\n•\tScience and society: The consequences of research, the function of scientific results in policy, and the role of disciplinary perspective in societal discourse and policy making \n\n•\tProfessionalism, professional ethics and its theoretical underpinnings \n\n•\tScientific misconduct – fabrication\/falsification, plagiarism, publication ethics\n\n•\tResearch involving humans – harm, privacy, informed consent; \n\n•\tResearch involving animals – ethical and legal aspects, relation to research ethics \n\n•\tRelevant SLU policies and other guidelines","Betygsformer":"Kraven för kursens olika betygsgrader framgår av betygskriterier, som ska finnas tillgängliga senast vid kursstart.","Examinationsformer":"Active participation in exercises, including preparations. Written assignment (short reflective essay). \r\n- Examinatorn har, om det finns skäl och är möjligt, rätt att ge en kompletteringsuppgift till den student som inte blivit godkänd på en examination.\r\n- Om studenten har ett beslut från SLU om riktat pedagogiskt stöd på grund av funktionsnedsättning, kan examinatorn ge ett anpassat prov eller låta studenten genomföra provet på ett alternativt sätt.\r\n- Om denna kursplan läggs ned, ska SLU besluta om övergångsbestämmelser för examination av studenter, som antagits enligt denna kursplan och ännu inte blivit godkända.\r\n- För examination av självständigt arbete (examensarbete) gäller dessutom att examinatorn kan tillåta studenten att göra kompletteringar efter inlämningsdatum.
