Description: Data in this file were derived from a cross-sectional experimental study involving healthy horses (NIR; n = 19) and horses previously diagnosed with insulin dysregulation (ID; n = 19). All horses underwent a 180-minute, seven-sample oral sugar test. Primary endpoints included group comparison (ID vs NIR) of pancreatic α-cell indices (Fasting glucagon and AUC glucagon). Detailed information on data collection can be found in the publication “Pancreatic α-cell dysfunction associated with equine insulin dysregulation”, published in the Equine Veterinary Journal (EVJ). The data are stored in an Excel spreadsheet containing 17 variables: Horse, Group, Breed, Gender, Age, BCS, CNS, fasting insulin, AUC insulin, fasting glucagon, AUC glucagon, fasting glucose, AUC glucose, AUC insulin/AUC glucose, RISQI, ISI-COMP and HOMA-β.

Abbreviations:
BCS; body condition score
CNS; cresty neck score
AUC; area under the curve
ID; insulin dysregulation
NIR; normal isnulin regulation
RISQI; reciprocal of the square root of insulin
ISI COMP; composite whole-body insulin sensitivity index
HOMA-β; homeostatic model assessment of β-cell function
