Plot area – Area of sample plot (m2)
Proportion of Norway spruce – Proportion of Norway spruce on plot level in percent
Maturity class - Maturity class (see NFI instructions for description)
Edge - Distance from plot center to stand edge or gap in the forest (0=in the edge; 5=1-5 m; 10=6-10 m; 15=11-15 m; 20=16-20 m; 25>20)
Edge time – Time when an stand edge within 25 m occurred (0=current season;
1=last year season; 2=season 2; 5=season 3-5; 10=older than 5 season; 99=no edge; NULL=Missing data)
A season is from spring budding one year to the budding the next year
Infested trees season 0 – Are there infested trees from season 0? (1=yes; 0=no)
Number of infested trees season 0 – Number of infested trees from season 0 (NULL=Missing data)
Logging – Harvesting method (11 = Clear cut; 21 = Thinning; 43 = Other type of felling)
(NULL=No logging within 5 years) See NFI instructions for description
Sanitation – Logging carried out as sanitation of infested trees (0=no; 1=yes; NULL=Missing data)
See NFI instructions for description
Harvest timing – Time when the logging was carried out (0=current season; 1=last year season; 2=season 2; 5=season 3-5; NULL=Missing data) A season is from spring budding one year to the budding the next year
Measured stumps – Stumps measured (0 = No stumps from season 0;
1 = Measured stumps only within plot area with 10 m radius; 2 = Measured stumps from the whole plot area; NULL=Missing data) A season is from spring budding one year to the budding the next year

TREEDATA SEASON 0
Plotno
Treeno
Position – 1=Standing tree; 2=Wind felled tree; 3= Stump
Within 10m – Within plot with 10 m radius (1=yes; 0=no)
Dead – Dead tree (1=yes; 2=living tree) (NULL=Missing data)
Diameter – Diameter at breast height (mm)
Diameter measurement – Diameter measured (Brh = Breast height; Stubb = Stump height)
See NFI instructions for description
Bark beetle – Damage by bark beetle species. GBB=European spruce bark beetle (Ips thypographus); DOB= Four eyed spruce bark beetle (Polygraphus poligraphus); GBBDOB = Both European spruce bark beetle (Ips thypographus) and Four eyed spruce bark beetle (Polygraphus poligraphus);
Season – Damage season. A season is from spring budding one year to the budding the next year. 0=present season
Including stump – Wind felled tree include stump (1=yes; 0=no) (NULL=Missing data)
Full length – Full length on standing tree and wind felled tree (1=yes; 0=no) (NULL=Missing data)
Length – NULL if full length = 1; If full length = 0 than measured tree length (dm)
Top diameter – NULL if full length =1; If full length = 0 than measured diameter (mm)
Edge - Distance from tree to stand edge or gap in the forest (0=in the edge; 5=1-5 m; 10=6-10 m; 15=11-15 m; 20=16-20 m; 25=21-25 m; 26=>25 m)
Volume – Volume in m3 (Cubic meters standing volume)
To calculate the volume of measured trees, wind felled trees and harvested trees (for which stumps were measured), sample trees and stumps from NFI were used along with model relationships to predict the heights of the trees (Ollas, 1980). Näslund´s smaller volume functions for southern Sweden were used to predict the volume of the trees. (Equations 6,7,8; Näslund, M. (1947).
