PhD students should hold a Master’s degree in forestry, plant sciences, biology, environmental sciences, or some related field.","Mål":"This course explores the consequences of forest damage caused by abiotic and biotic factors, emphasizing the management strategies employed to address their ecological and economic impacts. After completing the course, students will be able to:\n\n\n- Consider management strategies to mitigate forest damages and recognize their potential trade-offs.\n- Understand the ecological and economic consequences of forest damage.\n- Discuss the role of policy and economic factors in forest damage management.\n- Analyze emerging threats to forest health and propose adaptive management strategies.","Innehåll":"The course will be delivered through a combination of online lectures, journal clubs and an on-site study week. The journal clubs will involve weekly meetings and discussions of scientific literature, with each student expected to present and lead the discussion at least once. The on-site week will include lectures, group discussions, presentations, and field excursions. By the end of the course the students will have created a research project proposal on a topic of forest damage which will be submitted for evaluation.\n\nIn this course, students will learn the major consequences of forest damage, how to manage these damages sustainably, and how policy influences these management methods.","Betygsformer":"Kraven för kursens olika betygsgrader framgår av betygskriterier, som ska finnas tillgängliga senast vid kursstart.","Examinationsformer":"Approved active participation in lectures, journal clubs and discussions. Approved oral presentation and approved written assignment. It is mandatory to attend the excursions and the oral presentations of the on-site studies. \r\n- Examinatorn har, om det finns skäl och är möjligt, rätt att ge en kompletteringsuppgift till den student som inte blivit godkänd på en examination.\r\n- Om studenten har ett beslut från SLU om riktat pedagogiskt stöd på grund av funktionsnedsättning, kan examinatorn ge ett anpassat prov eller låta studenten genomföra provet på ett alternativt sätt.\r\n- Om denna kursplan läggs ned, ska SLU besluta om övergångsbestämmelser för examination av studenter, som antagits enligt denna kursplan och ännu inte blivit godkända.\r\n- För examination av självständigt arbete (examensarbete) gäller dessutom att examinatorn kan tillåta studenten att göra kompletteringar efter inlämningsdatum.
